(Reuters) -Mangosuthu Buthelezi, a veteran South African politician, Zulu prince and controversial figure during the apartheid liberation struggle, has died, the presidency said on Saturday. Critics dubbed Buthelezi a war lord but to his legion of followers in the rural Zulu heartland, he was a visionary. A Zulu chief, Buthelezi became KwaZulu's chief minister in the 1970s, where he tried a delicate balancing act: refusing outright independence and criticising Pretoria's racial policies while still playing a role in the homeland farce. Ashpenaz Nathan Mangosuthu Gatsha Buthelezi was born on Aug. 27, 1928, in Mahlabathini, the son and heir of Chief Matoli Buthelezi and Princess Constance Magago Dinuzulu. In 1953 he was installed as acting chief of the prominent Buthelezi clan and four years later was confirmed as chief.

Elizabeth Moore, VP of PR and Communications at Breitbart, told Reuters, “We never indicated that the DOJ is seeking or will seek the death penalty. “The Eighth Amendment rules out the death penalty unless the defendant intended or had a high degree of culpability with respect to the death of the victim. “Nor does it plead any of the aggravating factors -- from a list in the federal death penalty statute --that need to be specified. When seeking the death penalty, the indictment must include special findings as detailed in the DOJ’s Justice Manual (here). Donald Trump is not facing the death penalty in the federal indictment brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith on overturning the 2020 election.

A federal judge forced Twitter to pay $350,000 for initially refusing to turn over records related to Trump. Special counsel Jack Smith's team had filed a search warrant for records related to @realDonaldTrump. Circuit Court of Appeals panel later upheld a lower court's decision that protected Smith's request over Twitter's First Amendment defense. It's not clear if Twitter CEO Elon Musk was aware of Smith's search warrant. Twitter was forced to pay the $350,000 fine after the district court found that it failed to turn over the records to Smith's team by the deadline.

Lawyers for Donald Trump were told Thursday by prosecutors to expect an indictment against the former president in connection with his efforts to reverse his loss in the 2020 election, NBC News reported. At around the same time, the grand jury that could soon vote on criminally charging Trump assembled in Washington federal court. A number of those anonymous grand jurors were spotted in the cafeteria and then going to the grand jury room on the courthouse's third floor, according to NBC. Trump last week revealed that Smith had told his lawyers on Sunday that the former president was a criminal target of that investigation and had been offered a four-day window to testify to the grand jury. Smith in early June obtained a grand jury indictment of Trump in Florida federal court on several dozen criminal counts related to his retention of classified government documents at his Mar-a-Lago club after he left office in early 2021.

Those problems helped spur the creation of US Special Operations Command several years later. According to Maj. Gen. Richard Scholtes, the first commander of Joint Special Operations Command, US military officers involved in the planning soon butted heads. personnel conducted this investigation,” Mr. Parlatore said. Along with the classified documents case, prosecutors under Mr. Smith are also scrutinizing efforts by Mr. Trump and his aides to overturn the results of the 2020 election. The letter to Mr. Garland was an abbreviated version of a longer one that contained a more detail account of the concerns by Mr. Trump’s lawyers, according to two people familiar with the matter. The legal team’s visit to the Justice Department came amid indications that Mr. Smith is approaching the end of his investigation into the documents case and could soon make a decision about whether to seek charges. The initial letter to Mr. Garland was directly confrontational, accusing officials at the Justice Department of showing favoritism to President Biden and his son, Hunter Biden, who is under criminal investigation by the department.

REUTERS/Brian Snyder/File PhotoWASHINGTON, May 31 (Reuters) - Federal prosecutors have a 2021 audio recording of former President Donald Trump acknowledging he kept a classified Pentagon document about a possible attack on Iran after leaving the White House, CNN reported on Wednesday. CNN did not listen to the recording but cited unidentified multiple sources describing it. Trump’s remarks indicated he would like to share the information but was aware of the limitations on his ability to declassify documents after leaving office, two sources told CNN. "Leaks from radical partisans behind this political persecution are designed to inflame tensions and continue the media’s harassment of President Trump and his supporters," Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung said on Wednesday. The Justice Department is investigating whether Trump broke the law by retaining U.S. government records, some marked as top secret, after leaving office in January 2021.
